About the ride
Setting out from the rural hub of Ilderton, the "Off the Rails" 200km is an immersive journey through the quiet majesty of Ontario’s agricultural heartland. As the longer sibling to our 100km Populaire, this route pushes deeper into the Huron County frontier, following the ghosts of steam engines along historic railway corridors.
Riders will navigate the legendary "Waffle-iron" grid—long, straight stretches of road that offer a meditative rhythm and uninterrupted views of the horizon. The route is characterized by its openness, where the shifting spring winds become as much a part of the landscape as the farms themselves.
This brevet is a test of steady pacing and mental fortitude, offering a "pure" randonneuring experience through some of the most serene and historically rich backroads Southwestern Ontario has to offer.
