About the Ride

"There's No Place Like Windsor" is a comprehensive loop of the Essex Peninsula. Running in a clockwise direction, the route begins by heading north and east out of the city, hugging the shoreline of Lake St. Clair. This orientation provides a scenic, water-focused start before the route dips south toward the Lake Erie coast and eventually returns through the rural interior.

Known for being one of the flattest routes in the province, this brevet allows riders to maintain a consistent tempo while enjoying the diverse waterfronts that define the Windsor-Essex region.

Scenic Highlights and Special Sights

  • Lake St. Clair Shoreline: The ride opens with beautiful views of Lake St. Clair. This stretch is characterized by quiet residential coastal roads and glimpses of the expansive, shallow blue waters that separate Ontario from Michigan.
  • The Lighthouse Cove Area: As the route pivots, you’ll skirt the mouth of the Thames River and the unique canal communities of Lighthouse Cove, a landmark for sailors and cyclists alike.
  • Agricultural Heartload: Moving south toward Lake Erie, the scenery shifts to the massive agricultural fields and greenhouse complexes of the Essex interior, showcasing the region's status as Canada’s garden.
  • Lake Erie & Wine Country: Upon reaching the southern shore, the route passes through the "EPIC" wine region. You’ll ride past sprawling vineyards and roadside fruit stands near Kingsville and Harrow.
  • The Detroit River Return: The final leg travels north through historic Amherstburg and along the Detroit River. Riders are treated to views of the Navy Yard Park and the towering construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge as they close the loop back into Windsor.
